Easy Star FPV project

  • Hello everyone, this will be my first FPV project, which is why I have chosen the Multiplex EasyStar as a platform. I will lead you through the entire project, from the very beginning, which means the selection and purchase of necessary parts and materials, assembly, manufacture of individual parts and all the way up to the first flight. I will also write about safety Issues and Rules for Responsible RC Aircraft Operation :)
  • I’ll start with a list of all the parts I used and suggestions…
  1. Multiplex EasyStar (ARF)
  2. The Radio, I have the FUTABA T6EX but i would suggest the Futaba 7C 2.4 , you will need 7 channels!!
  3. The Brushless Motor, I use the Graupner INLINE 370 but you can  alternatively use this one from Turnigy (static thrust test here) ;)
  4. The Propeller, for the Graupner INLINE 370 i would suggest the CAM SPEED PROP 14×11 cm propeller and this prop adapter. For the alternative motor use this propeller with this prop adapter ;)
  5. ESC, TURNIGY Sentry 60amp Speed Controller (with cell protection) , the reason why I took this oversized ESC is because i want all the electronics (except video transmitter and camera) inside the fuse, since the setup will never draw more than 20 Amp’s the temperature of the ESC should stay low.
  6. Turnigy Digital high torque bearing servos ( QTY=2 )
  7. Rhino 1750mAh 3S1P 25C Lipoly Pack
  8. Charger/Balancer for the LiPo,  (See LiPo Safety aspects, this battery’s can be very dangerous if charged improperly and always charge the battery on a solid inflammable surface and/or use this safety bags ;) SAFETY FIRST!!!!!
  9. The Video Glasses, I use Headplay’s video glasses.
  10. Video TX, I use the T1012 1000mW 1.2 GHz (AFAIK illegal in the USA), but would suggest this one because 500 mW is just enough. A 1000 mW video tx creates to much noise for the servos ( result = the servos moving randomly and shake ) .
  11. Eagle Tree OSD system (on screen display) , you will need the OSD Pro Expander, MicroPower V3 E-Logger, GPS Expander
  12. The Video camera, I have this one, it is a CMOS camera, but would highly recommend this one (CCD) with this camera mount and two of this servos ;)
  13. EasyPod, I will make my own from scratch, of course i will share the PDF plan ;)
  14. Strong Rare-earth Magnets
  15. CARBON STRIPS 10mm x 0.5mm x 1m, (QTY=2)  for stiffening the wings ;)
  16. CARBON STRIPS 6mm x 1mm x 1.5m, (QTY=1) for stiffening the tail
  17. DUBRO HINGES STANDARD 116, I will make the ruder from the scratch, this EasyStar will be about 950 grams heavy and the stock ruder is just not big enough for proper steering.
  18. CARBON FIBER RODS  (QTY=1) dim. 500mm x 2mm, for stiffening the elevator. Can be found on Ebay
  19. Epoxy Glue 5min. Can also be bought locally, not a big deal.
  20. CA (Cyanoacrylate) Glue, for gluing the fuse (DONT USE EPOXY for gluing the fuse) , it is basically Super glue, and should be used with this activator.
  21. Shrink Tubing, ( QTY=2 m , 1Red and 1Black ) The 4 mm size works great for covering splices on motor and ESC wires and for covering the solder connection to gold bullet connectors.
  22. A piece of 3mm plywood, for the Ruder and for the EasyPad.  Plywood can be found on ebay. I didn’t have plywood so i used 3mm Balsa wood, both sides laminated with 15 min Epoxy and Glass Fiber Cloth.
  • This should be absolutely everything you need except two hands, time, a little scotch tape, few rubber bands and few tools like a sharp knife and a soldering iron.

  1. Have you seen this site?
    http://diydrones.com/
You can send your plane to fly by it self with the GPS coordinates you set before, you just have to enjoy the view and move to controls just if needed
Many grates from Salzburg – Austria

    “Ajde pogedaj malo ovu stranicu
    http://diydrones.com/
zasto nebi poslao avion da sam leti po GPS koordinatama a ti samo uzivao u pogledu
i po potrebi samo preuzeo komande.

    Pozdrav iz Salzburga

  2. Yes, I saw that page before :)
I’m able to set way-points with my EagleTree system and let the plane fly by its own. I never said I’m not doing it :D

  3. cool
Sorry for not writing English

  4. No problem Viktor, all good ;)
